As parents, we know just how important photographs of you and your family are. Those quick snaps during a trip to the beach, park or someones birthday. They might be a bit blurry,  a bit dark but nothing can take away the happiness and emotion you feel from them. Ive never seen a mum or dads phone that isn’t full of images, and I’ve lost count of the number of times people have laughed how their phone is full because they’ve taken so many pics of their kids. We pack so much into our phones these days and heavily rely on them. The horror comes when they break, get smashed, lost or thrown down the toilet and you realise that theres so many pics on there you’ll never get back.  As photographers we back everything up in multiple places, and as parents our phones are jammed with pics of Elian. The thought of losing images of him terrifies us so we’ve made sure they are backed up automatically, and its FREE.

To back up your phone pics for free we use Google Photos. Its a free app to download and all you need is a Google/Gmail email address. Once you install the app it asks you which folders your want to back up to Google Photos online and in the settings you can set it to back up on 3G/4G or wifi only to make sure you don’t chomp through your mobile data. Theres no limit how much you can back up either!

Another handy little trick with Google photos is that you can choose to delete the images from your phone using the “free up space” option, which keeps them online backed up, but removes them from your phone so you can carry on shooting when your memory fills up.

If you ever lose your phone, all you have to do is log back in to Google Photos on your new phone or on a computer and download them again. Simple!

After each photo session we recommend this method of keeping you photos safe and so many people didn’t know you could do it. Go on, add it to your phone today and have that peace of mind that your photographs are safe.
